Large Residential Community Domestic Sewage Treatment Project

Project Background

A newly developed large residential community planned to house approximately 8,000 residents, generating about 1,200 m³ of domestic sewage per day. The surrounding municipal sewer network was not yet fully in place, and land was limited, making conventional civil wastewater treatment plants impractical. The developer urgently needed an integrated sewage treatment solution with a small footprint, short construction period, stable effluent quality, and easy operation. After on-site investigation of water quality, flow rate, terrain, and surrounding environment, the Zhongqiao Enlightenment team recommended a multi-unit parallel Zhongqiao Box integrated sewage treatment equipment (MBR process) solution, covering the full process from design, supply, installation, commissioning, and training.

Solution Design

The project adopted four Zhongqiao Box units, each with a capacity of 300 m³/d, operating in parallel for a total design capacity of 1,200 m³/d. The process flow is “screen + equalization + anaerobic + anoxic + aerobic + MBR membrane tank + disinfection,” with effluent meeting Grade A standards of the “Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant” (GB 18918-2002). The equipment body uses anti-corrosion carbon steel and is installed semi-underground, covered with soil and greenery to blend with the community landscape. Each unit is equipped with an independent PLC control cabinet and connected to the property management monitoring platform for remote monitoring and automatic operation.

Implementation

From contract signing to equipment arrival took only 15 days. On-site lifting and piping took 5 days, and after 10 days of commissioning and bacterial cultivation, the effluent met standards. The overall project cycle was shortened by more than 60% compared with conventional civil works. The Zhongqiao technical team provided systematic training for property operators, covering daily inspection, instrument reading, membrane cleaning, chemical dosing, sludge discharge, and troubleshooting, ensuring the community’s long-term self-operation capability.

Project Results

After two years of operation, effluent COD, BOD₅, ammonia nitrogen, total phosphorus, and suspended solids have consistently met Grade A standards. Part of the treated water is reused for community landscaping and road washing, saving more than 80,000 tons of tap water annually. The equipment operates with low noise and minimal odor, with no complaints from residents. This case has become a demonstration model for decentralized sewage treatment in new residential communities and has provided valuable experience for Zhongqiao Enlightenment in the municipal real estate sector.
