Daily Operation and Maintenance Guide for Integrated Wastewater Treatment Equipment
Integrated wastewater treatment equipment can deliver stable effluent quality for many years, but reliable performance depends on disciplined operation and preventive maintenance. A compact factory-built system combines tanks, pumps, blowers, piping, valves, instruments, and controls in a limited space, so small problems should be identified before they affect the entire treatment process.
A practical maintenance program should be based on the equipment configuration, influent characteristics, discharge standard, operating hours, and site environment. The manufacturer's manual remains the primary reference, while daily records help operators adjust inspection frequency according to actual conditions.
Start with a daily visual inspection. Check the inlet, tanks, access covers, pipe connections, valves, cable entries, control cabinet, and surrounding area. Look for leakage, unusual vibration, excessive foam, blocked flow, damaged coating, loose fasteners, abnormal odor, or warning lights. Early observation is the least expensive form of maintenance.

Inspect pumps and blowers carefully. Confirm that motor current, sound, temperature, pressure, and vibration remain within the normal range. Clean intake filters, verify lubrication requirements, and check flexible connections and non-return valves. Duty and standby machines should be alternated regularly so that backup equipment remains ready for service.
Maintain screens, sludge lines, and air distribution. Remove retained solids before they restrict the inlet. Observe sludge return and waste-sludge discharge, and make sure valves do not become blocked after long idle periods. Uneven aeration may indicate a damaged diffuser, clogged air pipe, or incorrect valve position.
Verify instruments and automatic control. Level switches, flowmeters, dissolved oxygen sensors, pressure gauges, and alarms should be cleaned and checked at scheduled intervals. Test manual and automatic modes, emergency stops, interlocks, timers, and remote communication functions. Accurate sensors allow the control system to save energy without sacrificing treatment quality.

Monitor the biological process, not only the machinery. Track influent flow, pH, dissolved oxygen, sludge condition, temperature, and key effluent indicators. Sudden changes in color, odor, settling, or membrane pressure may reveal hydraulic overload, toxic influent, nutrient imbalance, or excessive sludge age. Process data should be reviewed together rather than as isolated numbers.
Build a preventive maintenance calendar. Daily tasks may include visual checks and operating records; weekly tasks can cover cleaning and standby-equipment tests; monthly or quarterly work may include electrical tightening, sensor calibration, oil inspection, coating repair, and safety-device testing. Annual shutdown maintenance should address items that cannot be inspected during normal operation.
Keep critical spare parts and clear records. Appropriate stock may include seals, bearings, fuses, relays, level switches, belts, filter elements, valves, and instrument consumables. Record every alarm, inspection, adjustment, replacement, and laboratory result. A complete history makes troubleshooting faster and supports better lifecycle planning.

Make safety part of every maintenance task. Isolate electrical power, release pressure, ventilate confined spaces, use appropriate personal protective equipment, and follow lockout procedures before opening, cleaning, or dismantling equipment. Wastewater tanks can contain hazardous gases, so access must follow the site's confined-space rules.
